Shared desert tours in Morocco are the easiest and most affordable way to reach the Merzouga dunes. You share the vehicle, the driver and the itinerary with other travellers, so you pay less and meet people along the way.
At Desconecta2Viajes we run departures from Marrakech of 3 to 6 days, tours from Fes of 2 and 3 days, and 3-day routes between Marrakech and Fes via the desert, in both directions. Every tour includes a night in a camp in Merzouga, and you choose between a standard or a luxury camp. Prices start at 90 € per person.
What is a shared desert tour?
On a shared tour you do not book a car just for yourself. Instead, you book your place in a group that leaves for the desert on the same day. The itinerary, stops and accommodation are the same for the whole group.
- Price per person: you only pay for your seat, not the whole vehicle.
- Set itinerary: the route and stops are already organised.
- Group atmosphere: you travel with people from different countries.
- Ideal for solo travellers: you do not need to find a travel companion to go to the desert.
Shared desert tours from Marrakech
Marrakech is the most common starting point for the Sahara. On the way you cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass and visit the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then you reach the Dades and Todra valleys and, finally, the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Simply incredible! One of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets of my life. I booked the luxury camp and it exceeded my expectations. The camel ride, sandboarding and quad ride were amazing. Fatimah, our guide, is wonderful, very kind and very helpful. She made sure we were all fine and having a great time.

I spent three absolutely fantastic days with Fatima and Youssef. Fatima is kind, interesting and genuinely cares about all her guests and their wellbeing. She is a wonderful person and the best guide! Youssef is an exceptional driver who adds a lot to the tour with his jokes and kindness. This tour is much more than a simple visit to the Sahara: you learn a great deal about the culture and meet many great guides along the way.

The drive to the desert was long, but we had some interesting activities at several stops along the way. The transport was comfortable and the driver was excellent. We had a delay beyond our control when rivers flooded the road, but we reached our destination safely! The dromedary ride to our camp was a lovely experience. In the morning we chose to leave the desert by quad for an extra fee, and we loved it. Watching the sunset from the dunes was simply magical. All the visits and activities made the long drive worthwhile. We were picked up and dropped off at our accommodation, which is really appreciated. The guide and driver were very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend it.

This trip is really worth it! Abdul Ahmad was an excellent driver: very well organised, and we felt very safe in the comfortable car. It was a wonderful tour that is about much more than Erg Chebbi! What we especially enjoyed was learning about Amazigh life on the way through the Atlas and its valleys.

This was one of the best tours I have done so far. My husband and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and the visit to Merzouga was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Boubaker, was friendly, polite and respectful, as was our driver. I really enjoyed the experience and meeting people from all over the world; everyone was very friendly and lovely. Unfortunately, some parts of the itinerary did not go as planned because of traffic caused by flooding, but I understand this was outside the operator's control. I had hoped to do more activities in the desert, but I understand time was limited. All the meals during the trip were good, although I was a little disappointed by the last hotel restaurant on the way back, as I did not particularly enjoy the food. Overall, the trip was fantastic, memorable and worth it. I am grateful for the wonderful memories we made and would love to come back.

Shared desert tours: frequently asked questions
How many days do I need for the desert from Marrakech?
Merzouga is far from Marrakech and the drive is long. That is why the shortest tour from Marrakech is 3 days. With 4, 5 or 6 days you travel more calmly and make more stops. From Fes, which is a little closer, there is also a 2-day tour.
Can I join if I am travelling solo?
Yes. You book a place for yourself and travel with the rest of the group. It is one of the main reasons people choose a shared tour.
How much do I pay to book?
You pay nothing on the website when you send the booking. Afterwards you pay a 50 € deposit via PayPal to confirm your place, and the rest later.
Is it safe to travel to Morocco?
Before travelling, check your government’s official travel advice for Morocco, for example the UK Foreign Office travel advice, and make sure you have travel insurance.
